Business Cards: An appropriation of an appropriation

In 1981, Louise Lawler invited her mailing list to attend Swan Lake performed at the New York State Theater. In doing so, she appropriates the performance and places it in the context of her own body of work, which deals with class and the production and circulation of art.. Effectively placing her quotation marks around the performance.

With this business card, we reproduced Lawler’s work replacing Louise Lawler’s name with the name of this brand as a homage to appropriation.

Invitations: March 2-12

On March 2-12, we will be showing a selection of flyer works created in the late-1970s through to the mid-1980s by influential American artist Raymond Pettibon.

At times satirical, hilarious, or even directly provocative of the Los Angeles Police Department; these works show the artist’s iconic illustration style in perhaps its most direct form

March 2-12, opening March 2 at 7PM.

Colbo, 51 Orchard St. New York.

Good Design is as Little Design as Possible

The intent of this installation was to challenge the dominance of Minimalism as the de facto aesthetic of ‘Good Design’. By curating a selection of rare and historic design pieces from a diversity of eras, styles, and material we suggest that good design can be complex and even difficult.

We made rare design pieces accessible by placing them in situ within a retail environment. Guests were encouraged to get close to and handle original pieces by Pierre Jeanneret, Isamu Noguchi, Mario Botta, Eames, Carlo Scarpa, and more.

Wrong Answer curated the design pieces and provided the accompanying print material that was available for purchase.

This week long installation at Livestock’s Toronto flagship location was executed in collaboration with Margin to celebrate the launch of their Essential Cleanser. Design pieces were generously provided by Porch Modern and art was provided by Andrew Watch.

Business Cards: Do you find there’s a need for business cards?

I made business cards.

I knew business cards and takeaways need to be clever. So, I asked some smart friends to give me some ideas for business card concepts.

Their responses were printed on the front of my cards, effectively producing each concept, sort of.

Thanks to Adam Jackson, Bijan Shahvali, Chris Black, Drew Stevens, James Harris, Jared Blake, and Sami Reiss for contributing ideas.

Wrong Answer X Liz Lenny Product

A limited series of bookends and ashtrays. We kept things simple - we developed a framework of references and worked with what we’ve got.

Both products emphasize contrasts. Between natural and machined, exacting precision and letting things be, quiet and loud.
