East 128 Milano 1965 (#14) - Ettore Sottsass + Fernanda Pivano
This is a special thing.
A small press silkscreened magazine printed by Sottsass and his wife, Fernanda Pivano. The magazine is a collection of design, drawings, collages, and poetry from Sottsass and Pivano.
This issue was produced in a numbered edition of only 800 copies. This is copy #717/800.
This is a wildly rare multiple from the Italian master and a very unique distillations of his design influences in print.
After a revelatory trip to India, Sottsass became ill and checked into a hospital for care. Bedridden and reflecting on his trip, Sottsass and his Pivano began producing collages and an improvised magazine, with encouragement from Allen Ginsberg, a recent acquaintance.
The early editions of East 128 Milano were conceived and produced from Sottsass’ hospital room in Stanford, East 128. These small publications were heavily influenced by the design he saw in India, American pop culture, and Beat poetry.
