Akira Ikeda Gallery had a great art program throughout the 80s, showing major artists such as Basquiat, Twombly, Warhol, etc.

The catalogs are all very well-designed as well. This Kenny Scharf catalog from 1988 features a series of freaky paintings from Scarf. I personally really like this series.
