Roy Lichtenstein Paper Plate 1969

Roy Lichtenstein Paper Plate 1969

$595.00

One of my favorite artist multiples.

These plates were initially created for On 1st, an uptown retail and gallery concept that foreshadowed Colette, Dover Street Market, etc. The shop was ambitious, he commissioned artist Sven Lukin to create a 2-tonne sign as the shop’s facade. The whole project was very chic but it didn’t last.

These plates were created by Lichtenstein specifically for the shop, but they were never distributed.

This plate has some minor uniform fading due to age, a slight scuff near the edge, and some evidence of tape on the back (likely from being framed).

These were later reissued but this is the first edition, from 1969. Stamped on the back.

These are getting more and more scarce.
