Screen Tests / A Diary - Gerald Malanga + Andy Warhol Hardcover 1st edition

Screen Tests / A Diary - Gerald Malanga + Andy Warhol Hardcover 1st edition
Though shortly lived, only shot between 1964-1966, Warhol’s Screen Tests bring together his fascination with portraiture and experimental film as well as his love of repetition.
Screen Tests all follow the same format - the subject staring straight into the camera for about 3 minutes. Screen Tests not only captured Warhol’s interests and aesthetic of the time, but also the cultural importance and energy of The Factory - as he cast from Factory regulars, including Lou Reed, Allen Ginsberg, Nico, Ted Berrigan, etc.
Published in 1967, Screen Tests / A Diary reproduces black and white stills from these films on acetate, each accompanied by poetry from Malanga.
Though very rare, the softcover version of this first printing is what is most commonly found on the market currently. However, this hardcover version is significantly more rare - likely only a hundred copies or so were printed of this version.
This particular copy suffers from the same binding issues as nearly every other copy. Due to the thickness of the acetate, the binding has separated in spots and has become detached from the covers. Again, this issue impacts nearly every copy of the hardcover (and many softcover) versions of this publication. DIY printing, baby.
Wildly rare. Nearly invisible.
