Walter De Maria - 50 M³ (1600 Cubic Feet), Level Dirt 1968
An important and early documentation of Land Art by one of its pivotal figures, Walter De Maria.
Extraordinarily rare.
This poster is for the first installation of De Maria’s Earth Room in 1968. In this early iteration, the piece is matter-of-factly titled 50 M³ (1600 Cubic Feet), Level Dirt.
While the initial installation is long since de-installed, this poster serves as the sole documentation of an important moment in conceptual art. De Maria’s New York Earth Room can still be viewed today at Dia.
“Pure Dirt only lasted several weeks, but the poster now acts as a relic of the installation, a deceptively simple object that reveals the artist’s anomalous engagement with the institutional and aesthetic critiques that became essential objectives of the Land Art Movement.” [Lily Gildor, 2016 – Cooper Hewitt].
Poster measures approx. 24× 23 1/4”.
Note minor wear to right-hand edge.
